Akshay Kumar is the lifeline of Vipul Amrutlal Shah�s movie �Namastey London�. The actor is simply superb not just in his impeccable comic timing, he is highly expressive in emotional scenes as well.

�Namastey London� is a wholesome entertainer. It has comedy, romance, good music and some desh bhakti as well. The movie is certainly not a rehash of Manoj Kumar�s �Poorab Aur Pashchim�. The East does meet the West in �Namastey London�, but the film has its own original storyline and Shah�s own treatment and presentation of the story.
The
film begins brilliantly with a bird�s eye view of London. Akshay Kumar steps out of a car and walks hand-in-hand with Katrina Kaif to the altar of a church where she is set to marry another man. Katrina�s eyes convey indecisiveness as Akshay, the Best man, escorts her to her groom-to-be and walks away with a fainting smile on his face.

The story then goes back a few months.

Jasmeet (Katrina) or Jazz, as she prefers to be called, knows well how to get rid of all the suitable boys her Punjabi father Manmohan Singh (Rishi Kapoor) finds for her marriage. Having born and brought up in Britain, she loves the western lifestyle. She hangs out at clubs till late night with her Pakistani friend Imran (Upen Patel) and his English girlfriend Suzanne. Jazz is attracted towards Charlie Brown (Clive Standen) who has been married and divorced three times before.

Tired of Jazz�s obsession towards everything western, her father Manmohan Singh plans a trip to India. It is during this trip, Jazz and her parents meet Arjun Singh (Akshay Kumar) in a Punjab village. While Arjun falls head-over-heels for Jazz in the very first meeting, she feels nothing for him. She only sees him as a villager who milks cows in his backyard.
Jazz�s father fixes her match with Arjun. Despite her unwillingness, Jazz gets married. But as soon as they return back to London, she refuses to acknowledge the marriage. Her decision shatters Arjun. But the Punjab da puttar decides to play along.

Although Jazz wants to marry Charlie Brown, Arjun�s love for her remains unconditional and he is sure that she will reciprocate his feelings some day.

Keeping this Akshay-Katrina track as the backbone of the story, Vipul Shah brings out a contrast in the meeting of the two cultures. The movie shows how young expatriate Indians are drawn towards western lifestyles, forgetting their own culture and values. Arjun Singh, as a Punjabi in London, triggers a change in the hearts of these characters (Jazz and Imran).

Upen Patel plays Imran, a Pakistani in a live-in relationship with an English girl, much against the wishes of his conservative father Parvez (Javed Sheikh).

�Namastey London� has several poignant moments. The most outstanding is the one in which a Briton mocks India and its culture, and Arjun gives him befitting gyan about the greatness of India. Another interesting sequence is the rugby match between the Asian and English teams. Apart from this, the chemistry between Akshay and Katrina is brilliant in many scenes. Be it them dancing hand-in-hand or sightseeing London, Akshay and Katrina share a remarkable chemistry.

Akshay particularly is very impressive in his comedy and expressive in emotional scenes. Katrina is pretty much okay in her solo performance. Rishi Kapoor�s acting is natural while Upen Patel just about manages not to ham. Javed Sheikh overacts in many of his scenes. Clive Standen gives a commendable performance.

�Namastey London� also hinges heavily on the music by Himesh Reshammiya. Songs like �Takna Takna�, �Rafta Rafta� and �Veeraaniyan� are the best of the lot.

In a nutshell, �Namastey London� is a well-made film that provides all-round entertainment for young moviegoers and family crowds as well. The film is definitely worth a watch.

Singh Is King is one of the most hyped Bollywood movies in recent times. There are several reasons for the hype

1. Akshay Kumar, the superstar, is the biggest reason for all the hype surrounding the movie. Akshay’s fan following has increased tremendously in the past 2 years. Also his pairing with co-star Katrina Kaif has created box-office magic in the past.
2. The movie is directed by Anees Bazmee whose last two movies, No Entry and Welcome, were box office Blockbusters.
3. Producer Vipul Amruthlal Shah has left no stone unturned in promoting the movie. More than 5 crores has been spent just on promotion.

Is Singh Is Kinng worth all the hype it has generated over the past few weeks? Well to a certain extent, Yes.
First the story. Singh is Kinng is about Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar) a simpleton, from a village in Punjab, with a heart of gold. He always tries to do good, but exactly the opposite happens. He tries to help a villager and ends up ruining the whole village. Frustrated the villagers decide to send him far away to Australia, to bring back Lakhan Singh a.k.a Lucky, an underworld don in Australia.
But as always when Happy Singh sets out to do good, he does the opposite. Happy accompanied by his friend Tony land in Egypt instead of Australia. Here Happy meets Sonia (Katrina Kaif) and falls head over heels in love, at first sight.
Happy then makes his way to Australia. Without any money, Happy and Tony starve for days until Happy bumps into Rose Lady (Kirron Kher) who gives him a place to stay and food to eat. Happy then meets King Lucky, but due to an attack on the gang, Lucky is hurt and now cannot speak a word. After a lot of confusion, Happy is crowned the King (don) of the dangerous underworld gang. After a series of comical errors and misadventures, Sonia turns out to be Rose Lady’s daughter who returns to Australia with her boyfriend (Ranvir Shorey).
Does Happy end up with Sonia or does she marry her boyfriend? Does Happy succeed in taking Lucky back to his village in Punjab? Forms the rest of the hilarious tale.
Singh is King is a perfect example of a great first half ruined by an average second. The pre-interval portions of the movie are filled with hilarious scenes.

• Happy chasing a chicken only to end up ruining the whole village is side-splitting.
• The scenes between Tony and Happy in Egypt and Australia. The dialogues are rib tickling, especially a few by Tony (Om Puri).
• The way Singh (Happy) becomes King is brilliantly written, enacted and executed.

After the extremely entertaining first half, you expect an even better second. Unfortunately, it pales in comparison. The song picturised on Javeed Jaffrey was unnecessary. Also the lack of scenes between Tony and Happy is a negative as their chemistry was brilliant. The climax seemed to be hurried up and before you realise the movie comes to an abrupt end.
Another aspect that could go against the movie is, at times it’s hard to understand the Punjabi dialogues. Also at times in the first half, the voice is not in sync with the lip movement. Wonder why such minor flaws are overlooked in an A grade bollywood movie.
The music is above average. Few songs like ‘Teri Ore’ and ‘Singh is King’ title track standout.
Akshay Kumar is a great entertainer, he puts his heart and soul into the character of Happy. His comic timing is as good as ever. Katrina Kaif does exactly what’s required of her; she manages to look great in every scene. Must say, her smile has a very pleasing effect on the viewer. She’s also looking better with each passing film. Om Puri is brilliant and his chemistry with Akshay Kumar is one of the reasons to watch the movie. Sonu Sood has improved a lot acting wise since his debut in B grade flicks. Neha Dhupia looks hot, does a decent job. Javeed Jaffrey is funny. The rest of the character actors are good.

Overall Singh is King is a typical Akshay Kumar mindless entertainer which has a great first half, beautifully picturised songs and a gorgeous Katrina Kaif. But what makes Singh is King more worthwhile is Akshay Kumar, who holds the movie together, well supported by Om Puri.
If your are a die hard Akshay fan and enjoyed his movies like Welcome, Heyy Babyy last year, dont think twice.. Just go for it! Others can wait for the DVD.
Ill go with 3 on 5 for the most hyped movie of the year!

You see Mithun. You make way. As does this movie. It flashes back to mid ‘70s. Mithun da (Ayeeessh!) is the disco d
ancer. “I am a disco dancer” is the song on his lips, and his profession to the girlfriend’s dad: "Zindagi mera gaana. Mein kisika deewana (Life’s singing for me. I’m also crazy about someone).”

That father is Prem, Prem Chopra. The baldie isn’t too impressed. He hands over an empty suitcase, asks the poor boy to make Rs 5 lakh before he can claim his daughter’s hand. Mithunda says he sold halwa over weekends (Dance Dance). He sold coconuts during day (Agneepath). But he couldn’t make those lakhs and win his girl. Another Disco Dancer ditty, Yaad aa raha hai plays in the background, and as a full-on track. The spoof alludes to a minor phase in Bollywood, when Hindi movies had momentarily lost their mind. Mithun da willingly plays fine sport, pokes fun at himself.

This sequence could be a skit of its own, on MTV, Channel V, Laughter Challenge; if it hasn’t appeared already. So could the rest of Golmaal 3.

The film picks up all its humour from Bollywood alone. Practically every dialogue, almost every scene, refers to another film, or a celeb -- some of them who’re in the movie, and some who are not. “Kareena is on the Saif side”, Arshad is waris (inheritor), not a Warsi (his actual surname), Shahid Kapur is the kamina (from the movie Kaminey)… The cutesy villain (Johnny Lever) is called Pritam (after the popular music composer). He enviably suffers from a short-term memory loss. By the end of this flick, you wish, so could you. Or maybe you do. But do imagine a film industry screening of this comedy and all celebs in the house, rotfl (rolling on the floor laughing), as it were. It’s truly that filmi. And for most parts hardly as funny for all. The cast and crew certainly had a laugh filming it. They even held an extended discussion on the picture Ghajini for us. Great for them.
How about telling a story of your own? Well that again, I guess, can be outsourced to ‘70s Bollywood: Basu Chatterjee’s Khatta Meetha (1979), I suppose. Mithunda and his sweetheart once (Ratna Pathak Shah) are single still. Kareena Kapoor plays cupid, and gets them and their families together.
Old man fathers three adopted monsters: Ajay Devgn (can’t resist cracking people’s fingers), Shreyas Talpade (stammers for our pleasure). Old lady likewise mothers another set of aged orphans: Arshad Warsi, Kunal Khemu (in top form), Tusshar Kapoor (more moronic than mute). The two groups, supremely high on energy, hate each other. Another set of comic villains back the two gangs. Those buffoons have separate stories of their own. The missing link is the movie itself. No one anchors it.
Golmaal was a sleeper hit of 2006. Since then, several ensemble comedies (Dhamaal etc), some of them put together by this film’s team as well (Sunday, All The Best) have tried to repeat the run. Golmaal 2 (second-rate stuff) apparently raked in big bucks. Such success can boost anyone’s over-confidence. Which explains this turd part.
Close to three hours is long time in anyone’s life. It’s longer still to pack into a screenplay. The filmmakers have six main actors to juggle with, and as many side comedians to lend parts to. There’s a deadline (Diwali) to meet. Never mind the narrative, they’d be happy with as any corny antics and dialogues with whoever’s available. You can cheat shots for actors not present. Shoddiness shows.
They attempt every possible stunt. For an entertainment-starved audience, maybe, even this will do. After all, Jab Harsha hai toh Bhogle hai. Jab Asha hai toh Bhosle hai… What? Whatever

Damn! Why didn't we think of sending the amazing super-hero Emran Hashmi to Australia before? Emran Saab's solution to global malevolence as provided in this disappointing mismash of masala and headlines is simple enough.

It's good to be bad. So says the smooth-sayer. Fair enough. If only the director had not decided to apply the motto to the treatment of this film.

At last our revenge on the Aussie attacks. This film is the ultimate comeuppance for the Australians… those so-and-sos who have been maltreating our hapless students who go to the firangi land to garner education and come back black and blue.

Blue is the colour that director Mohit Suri favours for his lurid leery look at gori babes in Melbourne. There's a gori chick and a brown chick for the Chick-let hero to chose from. He sleeps with the former and falls in love with the latter. As simple as that. Indian women are to revered. Foreigners are to be… you know!

In trying to do a ferocious flag-waving trick over the complex issue of racism and colour prejudice, "Crook" ends up making the Australian population look like a bunch of psychotic killers bashing and burning the good desi boys who have gone Under to gain gyan. Is this Australia or Chicago during the Prohibition
But wait. Suddenly the script decides to tilt the imbalance. Now the goras are not that evil. It seems Indians too create an obstinate culture block when they go abroad. They just don't know how to blend.

Thoroughly confused in its politics, "Crook" is one of those films that attempts to combine conviction with entertainment and falls between the two stools in the absence of those tools that lend skilful curves and slants to the storytelling. The narrative is uneven lopsided and askew. The pace goes from sluggish to frantic within a few reels providing us with no space to observe the characters' motivations beyond a cursory glance.

Mohit Suri who revealed a substantial grip over his material and characters in "Kalyug" here seems undecided about where to take his plot. The people who populate the storytelling seem to start off on page 1 of the newspaper and then head towards the cartoon section.

Technical aspects, another strong aspect of Mahesh Bhatt's films, are on this occasion just about okay.

The performances miss the intensity of Bhatts' "Gangster" and "Kalyug" by a wide margin. But Neha Sharma makes an expressive Hindi-cinema debut.

According to the latest TAM (Television Audience Measurement) reports Kareena Kapoor - Bollywood's leading actress officially emerged the most sought after actress in the brand endorsement circuit.

With a whopping 13 brands riding on her, Karena kapoor  - the only actress to stand exclusive in a male dominated industry, remains unmoved with labels of being "the best" or "the most sought after".

Says Kareena "I don't put a value to my worth. I'm not a product you can pick off the shelf. I have always been selective about what I endorse and the work I do. And I have always been exclusive."

Onir's I AM traveling to London Asian Film festival

I Am is already doing what it set out to - enlighten inform and heal. A tale of 4 stories woven together that takes audiences through issues and dilemmas that bruise the modern Indian society.
